Rehabilitation work begins on the Loxton Road bridge in Milnerton

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate has commenced with repairs to the Loxton Road bridge in Milnerton. The work is scheduled for completion on Tuesday, 1 December 2026, and it is currently being done between 07:00 and 17:00, Monday to Saturday.

‘Repairs to the Loxton Road Bridge in Milnerton, between Marine Drive and the Woodbridge Island Parking area, will help extend the life of this important community link. The work includes replacing the existing timber balustrades with galvanised steel balustrades, repairing damaged concrete piers, and applying a protective coating to all concrete surfaces. It's just another way we are helping keep Cape Town moving across our rivers, streams and waterways,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

Pedestrian access across the bridge will be maintained throughout the construction period.
However, portions of the walkway may be temporarily closed off to create safe working areas. In such instances, pedestrians will be guided to use the opposite walkway or designated alternative pedestrian routes.

Commuters and pedestrians are encouraged to allow extra travel time where necessary and to remain alert when passing through the area. Clear signage, barriers and traffic accommodation measures will be in place to ensure the safe movement of pedestrians and workers.
